-M- : I kissed a Girl

An interesting new version of the Katy Perry hit I kissed a Girl by -M- has emerged.

The track comes from the soundtrack of the film Toute première fois, a newly released French comedy by Noémie Saglio and Maxime Govare.

The song was of course a massive international hit for Katy Perry. The new version makes it more of a French kiss and it sounds all the better for it.

-M- released the track  Comme un seul homme earlier this month as a free download in tribute to those killed in the Charlie Hebdo incident.

Meanwhile, under his Matthieu Chedid name he is to tour in May with his father Louis and Joseph and Anna Chedid.

They're playing 30 days including several shows at the L'Olympia in Paris.

David Guetta: Titanium

With Xmas and New Year keeping me busy over the last couple of weeks, I failed to stick in a link to the David Guetta video for the track Titanium.

Got to say that it's an absolutely outstanding video, and probably the best track on last year's Nothing But The Beat album.

I like the way that the song and video seem to be seperate but complimentary to each other. The video is not about Guetta or vocalist Sia, but manages comes up with a totally different meaning for the song.

It features actor Ryan Lee, who starred in Speilberg's movie Super 8.

It's the kind of music video that you wish someone would make the rest of the film

An alternative vocal for the song was recorded by Mary J Blige, but for the album finally went for the version by Sia rather than Blige's take. The Blige vocal was leaked online last year, prompting a comment from Guetta: "You shouldn't even know about that ... I'd rather not speak about it. That was annoying. It wasn't supposed to be out there."

Apparently the song was also offered to Katy Perry, who turned it down.

Sia, an Australian singer who has been releasing material since 1997, might not be as high profile as Katy Perry or Mary J Blige, but there's no denying her performance here would certainly be hard for either them to beat.

Live: Yelle in Glasgow

Yelle were playing in Glasgow last night supporting Katy Perry at the SECC as part of her California Dreams tour, and there was a review of the gig on the STV website that had some great things to say about the French band.

While the article focussed on the big-budget show by Katy Perry, reviewer Kirstin Lynn wrote: "French dance-pop trio YELLE grabbed a hyped crowd on their side before infecting them with retro synths and modern beats."

"With intense rhythms and grimey electronics the band seem to fit nicely into the rulebook of French dance being done incredibly well. A few songs later though and YELLE are a bit more up-beat euro-pop than Daft Punk."

She added: "...the enthusiastic YELLE are the stubbornly hyperactive soundtrack to a sugar rush and leave the SECC sweet, if a little sweaty for a certain Miss Katy Perry and her Californian Dream Tour."

Good to see Yelle getting some well-deserved attention. Much of the press so far about the support acts for the Katy Perry tour has been about the spat between DJ Calvin Harris and Katy Perry that saw him leave the tour without any mention of Yelle, so good to see them get the kind of review that they deserve.

Yelle released their second album Disco Safari Club earlier this year.

The Katy Perry tour should see Yelle playing to a massive new audience, and one that is exactly right for Yelle. Hopefully France's brightest stars are set to go far in 2011
