Still coming to terms with the Euro election result. Shocking is putting it mildly.
A 25% vote for the Front National is no reflection of the France that I know.
France has racists, but it is not a racist country. The electoral victory of the FN will, if anything, encourage those fighting racism that they have more work to do, and that work will get done.
Saez wrote this song following Jean-Marie Le Pen 20% vote in the first round of the presidential elections in 2002. Chirac subsequently won the biggest landslide victory in the final round.
The result saw the Front National's apparent popularity collapse, and the party fall into decline that lasted for a decade.
While the situation today is different, the FN getting another high profile result may yet again be followed by another collapse.
