The Avener: We Go Home

A new single by The Avener, with another track from his The Wanderings of The Avener collection coming under the spotlight.

The song We Go Home features the voice of Adam Cohen, the son of legendary Canadian artist Leonard Cohen.

The track's a tasteful and folk flavoured number, following the success of previous tracks from the album incuding Fade Out Lines and You're My Window to the Sky.

The Avener's career has of course taken another significant step recently as a consequence of his work on the recent Mylène Farmer album Interstellaires.

If The Avener's Fade Out Lines might have seemed to some ears as simply an attempt to continue a formula  pioneered in the Robin Schulz remix of Lilly Wood's Prayer in C, but his work withstands repeated listening and reveals itself as sympathetic to its source material.

He's an artist who will have more to offer in 2016, and it will be interesting to see where his wanderings take him next.

The Avener: You're My Window To The Sky

A new track You're My Window To The Sky by The Avener, French house musician known to his
family and friends as Tristan Casara.

His track Fade Out Lines gave him a hit across much of Europe towards the end of last year, the song featuring on his The Wanderings of the Avener debut album.

That album included his version of a memorable cover of Townes Van Zand's Better than Waitin' Round To Die featuring the Be Good Tanyas. The album reached number two in France.

You're My Window To The Sky is also being used as the theme music for the Canal+ flagship programme Grand Journal since it returned to the air for a new season.

The song was originally by Australian singer Kim Churchill and appeared on his 2014 silence/win album.

A new edition of The Wanderings of the Avener is due out this autumn.

The Avener: Castle In The Snow

A new video for a track by The Avener, with Castle In The Snow getting  a clip released.

The track, which features Kadebostany , comes from his debut album The Wanderings of The Avener, and it follows hot on the heels of his last track Hate Street Dialogue.

The track Fade Out Lines was a massive hit for the DJ from Nice, helping the album sell over 100,000 copies in France alone.

Sadly, the full video has not been made available to watch in this country, so all I can link to is an audio version of the track.

Hopefully the full video will be made available internationally before too long.

Festival: Solidays 2015

Another summer festival unveils its line up, and today it's the turn of Solidays.

Solidays is a three-day  event on June 26 - 28 at the Longchamp Racecourse in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris.

For their 17th festival, organisers have announced the nine first  acts including Brigitte and The Avener.

Also there are  Franco-American folk act  Moriarty  and  Israeli s folk rocker Asaf Avidan, along with Damian Marley and Zoufris Maraca.

Solidays, while a massive music fesival welcoming over 150,000 fans, is also an event that focuses attention and funds to organisations fighting Aids.

Last year, the event was orgainsed under the theme The Fight Must Go On, in homage to Nelson Mandela, and featured the likes of Fauve,  Shaka Ponk,  Christine and The Queens, Vanessa Paradis and Woodkid.

Tickets for Solidays 2015 go on sale on Monday.

Trans Musicales preview: The Avener

One of the acts taking to the stage at the Parc Expo at the  Trans Musicales de Rennes festival tonight
is The Avener, a DJ and producer and one of the many dance-related acts performing over the event.

His first release was Fade Out Lines, a re-working of the track The Fade Out Line by Phoebe Killdeer and The Short Straws.

The Avener's work on the track reminds me of the remix of Prayer in C by Lilly Wood and the Prick that was an international hit after it was remixed by Robin Schulz.

Not that it actually sounds like that track, just that it takes a source song that you'd normally not associate with dance music, and re-interprets it in such a way that it works for a dancefloor but also retains the spirit of the original.

The Avener presents a house music infused with soul and informed by electro, and come up with something quite classy.

His debut album, to be titled The Wanderings Of The Avener, is expected to be released next year.
