Aline: Les Angles Morts

An impressive new clip from Aline for their track Les Angles Morts.

For the video, the band asked internet users in October to send them images they could use inspired by nocturnal wanderings, parallel and urban atmospheres.

The track, and its video has taken on a much more significant meaning in the light of recent events, the band saying that it was with a heavy heart that they decided to keep the montage as it was before the tragic events.

The song features on the band's second album La Vie Electrique.

Record Store Day in France / Disquaire Day

Tomorrow marks Record Store Day, when independent record dealers get some special exclusive
releases, and some much needed attention.

While originally a UK and US event, Record Store Day has in recent years become more of an event in France, where Disquaire Day sees a batch of releases and events including bands and DJs performing in shops.

France gets many of the same international releases as the UK and elsewhere, including a limited release of a vinyl Air single Playground Love / Highschool Lover, tracks from their score for the film The Virgin Suicides from 2000.

There are plenty of French acts getting special releases in France,  among them is a seven inch vinyl by Aline of La vie électrique / Plus noir encore.

Breakthough act of recent years Christine and the Queens release a four track Ep featuring Science Fiction /  Intranquilité / Paradis Perdus and Amazoniaque in an edition of 550 copies.

Etienne de Crecy has four releases, from his Super Discount 3 collection and Feu! Chatterton a limited 7 inch, with only 300 copies of bic medium / vierge.

The very wonderful H- Burns has an album of cover versions, with 350 copies of The Lo-Fi Series album.

There's also a five-track  live ep by Jean Louis Murat.

The seemingly tireless Johnny Hallyday has a seven inch picture disc of the track Seul available, featuring an instrumental and an acapella version as well as the regular track.

There are a couple of archive releases by French electronic progressive legends Heldon , with Live in Paris 1975 and Live in Paris 1976 available on vinyl for the first time.

Elsewhere n the world of magnificent 70s French prog, there's a Magma 7 inch featuring the track Floh Essi, in a limited edition of 250 copies.

There are, of course, many of the big international names also with special releases and re-issues available tomorrow. Big names like Bowie, Springsteen and Robert plant feature among dozens of other featured artists.

These treasures are available briefly, so better be quick.

You'll find them, if you're lucky, in record shops across France on April 18. If you pick up a spare copy of the Heldon or the H-Burns albums, be sure let me know ;-)

Aline: La Vie Electrique.

A new track by vive le roq favourites Aline, with the particularly funky La Vie Electrique.

Last year's album by the band  Regarde le ciel was very much enjoyed around these parts, with songs like Je bois et puis je danse and Elle m'oubliera featuring on this blog.

Prior to then the band went under the name of Young Michelin, releasing a couple of singles and digital tracks before a certain French tyre manufacturer suggested a name change.

The band are from Marseille, and are a four piece led by singer and guitarist Romain Guerre.

The track comes from Aline's new album, also to be entitled La vie électrique, which is due out on June the first.

Aline play at L'Olympia in Paris on February 25.

Aline: Elle m'oubliera

An excuse for another mention of the wonderful Aline as they're playing in Paris tonight at the L’Alhambra.

I featured the video for their song Je bois et puis je danse earlier this month, which featured on their album Regarde le ciel, which was released in January.

The band went under the name Young Michelin for a while, changing their name under pressure from a certain tyre manufacturer.

A name change at the time a band are just beginning to forge a reputation can be a disaster, having released a  couple of EPs and a victory in the Les Inrocks CQFD awards in 2010,  but Aline bounced back with a  series of releases that showed that however illustrious their past had been, their present and future were even brighter.

The band are from Marseille, and are a four piece led by singer and guitarist Romain Guerre.

The video sees the band perform a session for the Froggy's delight website as a two piece in a low key version of the song Elle m'oublier, a track that also features on their album

Aline: Je bois et puis je danse

I liked the song Je bois et puis je danse by the band Aline, but hadn't got round to featuriung it until now, so thought it well worth a mention.

The song's got a nice 80s alternative British pop feeling, I could imagine it as a much-loved 7' on an indie label like Postcard Records from years ago, rediscovered and found to be still as fresh as a daisy.

The band are from Marseille, and are a four piece led by singer and guitarist Romain Guerre. Initially know as Young Michelin, the band previously released a couple of singles and EPs in the last couple of years.

Romain Guerret was previously in a band called Dondolo, who released two albums in 2007 and 2010.

When Young Michelin had to change their name, they settled on Aline because in an imaginary biography of the band, Guerre. told Les Inrocks, he wrote that the band came from the town of Aline, a made-up town, a sad grey town, crossed by an opaque river.

While they weren't able to keep using the name Young Michelin, and even though probably only a couple of people actually read the bio, they kept the name Aline to keep a link to their past.

This song originally emerged on an EP last year and it features on the Aline album Regarde le ciel, which came out in France in January this year.

The band have a number of live dates in France, including a show at the Alhambra in Paris on may 28 with Autour de Lucie.
