Justice: Fire

A new clip by Justice, released a week after their much anticipated Woman album.

the new clip features Susan Sarandon, one of the more interesting Hollywood stars, in perhaps a homage to Thelma and Louise.

There's no Geena Davis in this version, Justice sharing the car with her instead, after they've given it a well deserved clean.

There have been mixed reviews of Woman, Pitchfork commenting it was "better suited to soundtrack a car commercial than to actively engage the listener".

Perhaps appropriate then that they have a video that plays a bit like an ironic 80s car commercial.

Justice: Safe and Sound

A new track has emerged by Justice, with the track Safe and Sound played during a  DJ set by the band's manager at the Sonar music festival.

The new track was played by Busy P at the Ed Banger House Party, and a check on Shazam recognized it as a new unreleased track by Gaspard Michel Andre Augé and Xavier de Rosnay.

Their last studio release was 2011's Audio, Video, Disco, with a live collection Access All Arenas released in 2013 documenting their live show at the  Arena of Nîmes the previous year.

A new album by Justice is expected to be released later this year.

Justice: New Lands teaser

A teaser for the new video by Justice, for the track New lands

The video's quite different from their previous videos from the 2011 Audio, Video, Disco album.

New Lands is the fourth single from the album, which regular readers will remember was this blog's album of the year from last year.

The video seems to take a futuristic sport setting, taking some of the style of vintage dystopian sci-fi movies like Rollerball, Escape from New York - check the Snake Plissken eye patch-  and Running Man.

It looks like it will be a memorable representaton of the track, and I'm sure it will find its way into TV sports montages on the back of the images being used here. Looking forward to checking out the complete video when it drops.

Meanwhile, there are remixes of the track by falcon, A-Trak and SebastiAn along with a live version of the track available.

The full version of the video surfaces on July 11.

NME Awards: Justice

Another award ceremony on the immediate horizon, with the NME magazine holding its annual ceremony

Justice are shortlisted for two awards, Best International Band and Dancefloor anthems, two well deserved honours.

The band have been just been touring the UK and building on their reputation as one of the best live acts around.

Perhaps its the rock music influence that flavours their music, but Justice are a great live act their shows more than just an opportunity to play their music to an arena sized audience.

There's lots of rather ropey live footage from the recent Justice live dates available on youtube, but the quality doesn't really do them (ahem) justice, so I thought I'd link to a bit from the A Cross The Universe documentary made by Romain Gravas about the band's 2008 US tour deserved an outing.

We can only hope that the 2012 Justice live experience has been captured with a similar eye.

Live: Justice - On 'n' On

With Justice touring the UK this week, and European dates following, I thought it a reasonable excuse to show their most recent video On and On 'n' On.

I've made no secret of their last album being my favourite of the last year, and it certainly bears repeated listening.

This track is, for me at least, as close to Led Zeppelin as it is to any contemporary dance genre. There's even a flute solo, reminiscent of the way Zep would counterbalance their heavy rock swaggerstomp with a touch of pastoral wistfulness

I could easily imagine Robert Plant's vocals on this track.

Justice have pushed the boundaries with the Audio Video Disco album, essentially positioning themselves as a rock band that just happens to use the palette of the electro dance genre.

Remixes on On 'n' On have been released including versions by Rick Rubin, Tiga, Erol Alkan, Brodinski and Video Village.

Justice play Bristol on February 9, London on February 10, Birmingham on February 11, Glasgow on Sunday February 12 and Manchester on February 13.

They have also been confirmed as the headliners for the Rock Ness festival in Scotland in June, as well as the Vielles Charrues festival in France July and the Bestival event in the UK September.

Commercial break: Uffie and Evian babies

A new advert for French mineral water Evian is on TV in the UK, and its giving an innovative French electro/rap artist a far wider audience than they would normally get the chance to be heard by.

The advert is itself a clever piece, continuing the brand's 'baby' concept and 'live young' slogan from their earlier adverts, including their memorable previous "Roller Babies" campaign.

The music is by French American artist Uffie, a cover version of the 1981 Tom Tom Club song Wordy Rappinghood, a top ten single in the UK.

Uffie has been based in France since she was 15, having previously lived in Hong Kong and Florida, She studied fashion in Paris, and signed to Ed Banger records in 2006 after her vocals were used by her then-boyfriend DJ Fiedz for his track Uffie and Me.

Her subsequent releases included the critically acclaimed debut proper Pop the Glock, and there were collaborations with Justice and Mr Oizo and a couple of EPs before releasing her debut album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans on Ed Banger Records in 2010.

The album would go on to spend 12 weeks in the French album chart and it was nominated for the best electronic albun in France'e Victoires de la Musique.

Wordy Rappinghood was produced by her Ed Banger records labelmate DJ Mehdi, and released as a single last month.
