Yann Tiersen: Porz Goret

A new video by Yann Tiersen, for the track
Porz Goret which features in his new book of piano music.

His new collection  - entitle Eusa - was released in this format rather than as a recording. It features the music for ten new pieces.

The clip was recorded on the island of Ouessant off Brittany, where Tiersen lives.

His most recent album Infinity was released a year ago.

Tiersen plays two nights at The Barbican in London in May 2016.

Yann Tiersen: Live in London

A very quick new release by Yann Tiersen this weekend, with a live album of his gig at the Royal Festival Hall in London at the weekend being made available as a CD and download immediately after the show finished.

Tiersen played at the venue on Friday night, and as he was playing the recording was recorded and mixed at Abbey Road studios as it happened.

Obviously it will be a recording in far better sound quality than any phone footage of the show might ever hope to capture.

For all he's an artist most closely associated with film soundtrack work, he's never been shy about performing on stage and presenting what could be seen as quite fragile and beautiful work in a live context.

His Infinity album is certainly a contender for the album of the year as far as this blog is concerned.

His tour continues in October and November, with dates in Europe, North American and South America.

He plays in Paris on October 27 at l'Olympia.

The CD is available to order at this site

Yann Tiersen: Meteorites

A new video for the track Meteorites by Yann Tiersen, from his Infinity album that was released earlier this
year.

I could listen to this track all day, as indeed I could to the rest of the Infinity album. It really is one of the finest releases of the year.

Aidan Moffat is of course formerly of Arab Strap, and a solo artist in his own right.  He doesn't look much like Clémence Poésy, an actress who has featured in films like In Bruges, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire  and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and TV series like Gossip Girl and The Tunnel.

Somehow hearing an unapologetically Scots accent on a French release is an added bonus, and having Clémence Poésy as the face of the narrator changes the perspective of the lyrics subtly but completely.

Yann Tiersen is touring extensively this autumn, and plays in Manchester and London in September.

Yann Tiersen: Secret concert

A secret concert by Yann Tiersen was live streamed on Arte last night, and the video of the event remains
available to watch online.

The show was filmed on the island of Ouessant, off the coast of Brittany in France, where Tiersen lives.

The show took place facing the Nividic lighthouse, one of three on the rocky island.

The rugged yet also fragile landscape provided a spectacular backdrop for Tiersen's music, with an audience of perhaps a couple of dozen people at most in the crowd.

Tiersen's new album, to be entitled Infinity, is released on May 19 and he's got a number of live dates coming up including a show in London on September 26 and Paris on October 27.
