Jean-Michel Jarre - Hey Gagarin

Marking the 50th anniverary of one of the most extraordinary events in human history, the space flight made by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961.

With Vostok 1 he became the first human in space, and now that the cold war rivalries of the day are forgotten, the event can be remembered by all as the incredible achievement it was.

While his flight only lasted one hour 48 minutes, it changed the way we look not only at space, but at the world we live in as well.

Following his historic flight, Gagarin was an international celebrity and visited many other countries, as a popular ambassador promoting the USSR's achievement. Gagarin visited France in 1963.

The Jean Michel Jarre track is from his 2000 album Métamorphoses, which, while not his most commercially successful album, certainly established his much-deserved place at the forefront of "dance" music.
