Quentin Dupieux: Paris Now! - Being flat

A return to the screen by a genuine French icon, with Flat Eric appearing in a new short film by
director Quentin Dupieux.

The video is part of a series of short films made under the auspices of the Red Bull Music Academy in Paris.

A series five short films under the collective title Paris Now! were put together by different directors for the event, each showing their own vision of the French capital.

Dupieux  under his Mr Oizo guise was of course behind the Flat Beats track with its memorable video.

RBMA gets under way on Sunday October 25 until November 27 at la Gaîté lyrique, featuring sessions, workshops and club events featuring what they describe as "61 carefully selected producers, vocalists, beat-makers, instrumentalists and DJs."

Artists involved  include  Nicolas Godin, Laurent Garnier, Jean Michel Jarre and  Lætitia Sadier.
It's the first time in four years the event's been held in Europe.

Dupieux, meanwhile, has a new EP out in November entitled Hand In The Fire.

Mr Oizo: The Church

The new album by Mr Oizo has been made available to listen online, a week ahead of the full release  of the new collection by Quentin Dupieux .

The stream is on the Dazed and Confused website, where Oizo speaks of his time in Los Angeles where he collaborated with Flying Lotus over the re-issue of his second album, the positive experience leading to his continued relationship with his label.

Oizo's been engaged in low-budget high-imagination cinema in recent years, and while best-know for the film Rubber (about a killer tyre...) he's worked on promo clips and music videos as well.

The new album, The Church, follows the release of the track Machyne in September and it's certainly been eagerly awaited by fans of the more experimental edge of the electronic music spectrum.

The new collection, his fifth, comes out on Brainfeeder.

Mr Oizo: Machyne

A new track by French electro pioneer Mr Oizo ahead of the release of a new album.

Machyne comes from Mr Oizo's fifth album which will be entitled the Church and is to be released on Brainfeeder.

Oizo- Quentin Dupieux to his friends -  is of course best known for Flat Beat, a breakthrough track  from his Analogue Worms Attack album that reached number one in the UK in 1999.

Since then he's released another three albums, as well as directed film projects and music videos.

The new album is expected on November 18.

Mr Oizo: Amicalement

A new EP - Amicalement- has appeared by Mr Oizo, with the track Solid featuring the voice of Marilyn Manson.

The EP is available free from Oizo's website, although the website can be a bit unpredictable about loading.

Hopefully it's just a case of it being hit repeatedly for downloads of the EP.

Oizo's one of France's most respected producers and artists, and one of the few to have a huge mainstream hit with Flat Beat in 1999, a number one in the UK and a huge hit elsewhere.

The new release follows 2012's Stade 3 EP, a seven track affair that's also available from Oizo's website.

In the meantime, some cracking French music, available free. What are you waiting for?
